Fifty Shades of Grey
To tell you the truth, I don’t like to follow the crowd. If something’s popular, I like to do my best to run in the opposite direction. Fast. But there are times when you just have to give in and go with the flow.
I had a feeling I’d like the trilogy Fifty Shades, but it was suddenly popular, so I tried very hard not to read it. Obviously, my resistance was mediocre at best – I read the series, and loved it. Well, the last two books, anyway. And so I was moved to do a manicure in honour of Christian Grey. Let’s face it; he’s very Edward Cullen by the third book, only, you know, less vampy and more hunky :D
As those who have read the series will know, Christian Grey owns a particular grey tie which heroine Ana Steele is quite fond of. I have to say, all kinkiness aside, it sounds like a nice tie. So I decided to replicate its texture for my nails. Simple, yet elegant.
Sally Hansen’s Celeb City is a beautifully textured silver polish. I just threw it on, and decided to apply a matte top coat to my left hand, and a glossy top coat to my right. Honestly, I coudn’t decide which would be better. So I just thought…why not go both?
The matte lightened the silver, while the glossy picked up all the highlights and shadows. I actually still can’t decide which one I like best.
You can use different top coats to create various designs. You can do as I did with matte on one hand and glossy on the other.
Or you can paint the nails in matte, then create French tips with the glossy. Or you can do the reverse (though I personally prefer the former).
Or you can alternate between matte and glossy on the one hand. Whatever takes your fancy. But by all means, don’t stop there. You could do some wicked nail designs just with the two top coats on the deliciously textured silver – ahem, grey.
Hey, you never know – there could be fifty ways to do it!
